Bone Grafts
There are several different reasons why a bone graft could benefit you. If you’ve had a missing tooth for an extended period of time, for example, the bone around the empty socket can shift and recede. In cases like this, a small bone graft can help restore the natural shape of your face!
The process of a dental bone graft is straightforward. The dentist will gain access to the area that needs the graft with a minor incision, and the place the grafting material. Your body will use that grafted material as a scaffold to reform its original bone structure.
Sinus Lifts
If you’re looking to have a tooth implant, it might be necessary to have a sinus lift first. In many cases, the process is similar to a bone graft. If the bone around a missing tooth has shifted, it’s possible that your sinus membrane will have come too close to the socket for an implant to be placed safely.
With a small incision, a dentist can shift that sinus membrane just enough to allow the safe placement of a dental implant. The previous location of the membrane will be filled to ensure that it doesn’t shift back. After a healing period, you’ll be ready for a dental implant!
Dental Implant Placement
Once you’ve gone through the evaluation and planning processes for a new tooth, you’re ready for dental implant placement. Your implants will be placed in the appropriate locations and will begin the process of healing and grafting to your jawbone. After this osseointegration process is complete, you will be ready for the restoration process.
